It's not entirely to blame democracy per se, but to point out that it has always had flaws. Even Ancient Greece, where democracy began, had rabble-rousers and demagogues; the flaws were evident from the beginning, we just don't have a better system.

Besides, democracy in many nations works *relatively* well. It's only really the US that has gotten it wrong.
